What To Wear To Your Engagement Session

Wooooo! You’re engaged! Time to get all your pictures taken for save the dates, instagram posts, and wall prints. There is a question that typically arises for these kinds of sessions, “What in the world do we wear?” Don’t worry, I will help you out.

The best thing I can tell you is STICK TO NEUTRALS! What do I mean by neutrals? Basically stay away from anything bright. Do not wear bright red, orange, yellow, or any color that is just overly bright. You do not want to wear these colors because they can cast that color onto your skin, making for weird looking and uneven skin tones. You want to wear a neutral color like a grey, black, tan, smoke, something in that family. This will not only keep a color cast off your skin but make your skin pop and stand out! If you do decide you want to have a pop of color, look for muted colors such as the options listed below.

Another tip I would add is try to keep away from obnoxious prints on your clothing, aka plaid. Wearing plaid or stripes can cause something called “Moire” or “Chromatic Aberration.” I know you just read those and said to yourself that you have absolutely no idea what that means. I figured, so allow me to explain. Moire is basically a strange banding across your clothes that typically happens on striped clothing. It is very noticeable and an eye sore in pictures. Chromatic aberration is when there is a color hue surrounding the lines of other colors on your clothes. For example, if you were wearing a white shirt with red stripes, its possible that there could be a green or blue hue surrounding the red stripes. Almost like a ghosting effect. There are softwares to combat these but if you want to be nice to your photographer and get your pictures back as fast as possible, you want to refrain from obnoxious stripes and prints.

My last tip I will give is WEAR SOMETHING YOU FEEL CONFIDENT IN!!!! That is definitely a sentence that deserves a lot of exclamation marks. There are many times where couples will wear certain clothing because it looks good but they just don’t feel confident in them, then they get the pictures back and hate them. Not because the pictures are bad, but they just don’t like the way they look in their outfits. Every photographer does not make body alterations, they won’t go into photoshop and make you look smaller or bigger or take something away from how you showed up. I encourage you to show up the way you want to look on camera, that goes from clothing, to make up, to hair, to nails. You will be surprised at how your clothing selection and your confidence will radiate in the pictures, resulting in images you love and cannot wait to share!

I hope this little tidbit helps! If this was of some value to you be sure to leave a comment down below! Now that you have these tips you can show up to your session confident that you will get some AMAZING pictures that everybody will love just as much as you!
